Fushan Summer Camp - Week 2

This past week we learned a new song by Bonnie M called Sunny. It has a really fun beat with many new English words for the students to learn.

We also did Literacy Centers, in these centers the students got to do speaking, reading, writing and making activities.

The students had the opportunity to visit a job experience theme park where they got to create real life scenarios of various careers such as: bakers, inn keepers, archeologists, dentists, textile makers, artists and others. By doing this the children got to stimulate their potential and interest and use their co-ordination as well as teamwork through a hands-on experience. Our class loved their fake money and really enjoyed their day. We played many speaking activities prior to going on our trip including some key vocabulary:

What do you want to be?

I want to be a ________________ (doctor, lawyer, dentist, teacher, scientist).

On Thursday we had gym class and got to play some American sports, last week we played dodgeball, this week we played soccer .Friday is always fun day so the students did some arts and crafts activities, later we did computer studies with BBC English Kids.

Fushan Summer Camp - Week 1

This week we have been very busy getting to know each other. I am happy to have such a wonderful class! 

The first day we learned each others names with meet and greet activities. 
We talked about each others countries and played a "Where are you from?" game. 
The students got to know about various kinds of weather and the days of the week. 
We also talked about what we like and don't like. 

The students enjoyed singing many songs that I am sure they will want to share with you including: 

• Hello Goodbye by the Beatles
• Do you like it?
• ABC Phonics chant

Poetry

The students have started studying poetry and it's different characteristics. We now know that there are many kinds of poetry and not all have to rhyme. The first poem we studied today is an acrostic poem. Acrostic poems use the letters of the topic to begin each line. All lines should relate to the word going down. Remember it can be more than one word as long as it is still within the topic.

C - heerful

Symbols in Mapping

Today we talked about some of the symbols we can find in mapping. What defines a symbol? As Catholics we recognize that one of the main symbols of our faith is the cross, which represents Jesus' love for us. But what about in our town? What kind of symbols can you find in Milton? We investigated our trusty Milton community bus maps to find out. 

Questions to consider:
 - Why is that symbol a certain color or shape?
-  Is that symbol seen or used in more than one area?
-  Have we seen certain symbols near our school that would tell us where we are? What are they?
